I currently have a 28'' door that hinges on a 34.5'' wide wall. My question is, will a 28'' door fit inside of the 34.5'' wall after the pocket door framing is installed? I am very new to pocket doors and find them confusing at best. Any help would be appreciated.

I've hung a few and the framing was made out of 1by and only extended the door by a few inches. You do need a solid 2x4 to mount it to and they are an inch and a half thick. Good luck!

you will need too measure the door frame that came with your new door. now do you have enough wall space. you said your wall space was smaller than double the door. but is that on the inside or the outside? just because you have a wall that intersects the wall you wish to put the door in may not always keep you from installing the door. remember you need to leave room for the new jam and trim.does the old door header carry any load? your pocket door will sit lower than than old door most of the time. so you dont need to remove the upper plateline. then you can build a opening for the new door. the plans you got with your door kit will give you the rough opening you will need to get the door installed. GOOD LUCK!
