I am heading out to Salmon River in upstate NY in mid september with my FIL, 2 BIL's and my BIL's dad. Really looking forward to it, supposed to be huge Salmon there. We will be drifting in the boats and probably do some wading. Great thing is I need to get some new fishing stuff for the trip. I need a bigger rod and reel, new line, some hooks and lures. I did spend about $50 on lures at the lake last week, but I need different ones for the salmon. Good thing is I still have a $50 gift certificate for cabellas from Christmas.
Any one ever fish Salmon river, I think we will be pretty close to the lake. Any suggestions? This is my first trip up there, although the in-laws go every year. We did Erie last year (we will go there again in Oct this year). I do not understand but it seems we fish all fall and winter but not much in the summer. After Erie we will be chasing the Stripers down the Jersey coast then up the Delaware.

You guys will be between my place an North Country Dad. I'm not a fisherman but the Salmon fishing is suppose to be some of the best in the world up on the salmon river.
You won't be far from Lake Ontario.

We will be up there the weekend of Sep 19th for a few days (depends on the wifes work schedule). My BIL said we may take the boats on Ontario depending on the conditions

My friends from College go to Pulaski every year to do lamprey control for the Canadian Government. Had I not married my wife I may have been doing something like that myself. He gets to electrofish there. Fun stuff!

I took the boy to the Delaware on Saturday. Of course we did not catch anything but we had fun.

No hookups for any of us today. Saw a lot of big jumping fish and a couple of people around us landed 1. Maybe tomorrow. Don, drove up 13 from Elmira today, how many damn lights does one podunk town need.

I caught 1 fish 10 minutes before I had to leave.
25lb king Salmon.
A guy at the lodge took the video, it took about 10 minutes to land. That's my FIL in the video with the net.

When I cut up the filets I got 16 good sized portions. We are going to have the first of it tonight. I am going to throw a couple in the cast iron frying pan with some rosemary and olive oil.

Matt, did you ever set a date for Pulaski? It was slow all around when we were there. Not that many hookups out there. They were jumping all around on Saturday and that is when most were caught. We only saw one or two hookups on Sunday, hardly any boats out either. We were upstream of the bridge a little, but before you got into the paid portion. I caught mine at the "town pool" behind Yankee Fly shop (where we stayed). It was a good catch too, not a snag. It did have 2 hooks in its back. Of course a good catch was probably a lucky snag in the mouth.
Everything our group caught were on chartreuse styrofoam balls, #4 gamakatsu octopus circle hooks and a long(6ft+) vanish leader with the split shot up 2-3 feet. Guys throwing plugs did not seem to be doing great, but who really knows.
We are heading up to Lake Erie the weekend before halloween. Last year the weather was pretty rough until the last day so we were in a little pool until then. We were catching, but the water was still too warm for the big ones. Hopefully it will be calmer and colder this year but I doubt it. Throwing spoons for steelheads is fun, but I think that King may have spoiled the fight some since the trips are so close together.
I am looking forward to the stripers in Nov. At least that is just a day trip over to the shore.
