13 days and counting until the Flyers take on the Devils in preseason action. Training camps are starting to open up, young players are shooting to live out their dream. Older veterans sharpen up their blades and taping up their sticks for another season.

We get to hear Hockey talk about all the teams he gets to be a fan of because he is Canadian.

We get to hear KG talk about those Caps in DC and how they are the best team and have the best fans.

We get to hear about those old men in Blue in NY and how they just can't get it done.

Should we give Lord Stanley's cup to the Red wings now? I think certain people on this board would like that.

We get to renew rivalries, make new ones, share in fights won and lost.

So I ask you to get that jersey out, brush up on your teams rookies, and start to grow out them beards.

And guys who live in Virginia can be fans of the Rangers. Then there is poor old Don up there that wishes nobody knew he was a fan of the Sabres. I could see being a fan of Jersey. They have Brodeur after all and he is Canadian and is a baddass in net. Love him to death!

If it is the full six months that puts him in April. Now since he is on the IR, they can use his cap space on someone else. But if he comes back they will have to clear cap room for him.

Hatcher is on IR for the Flyers, he cleared up 3.3 million. If he comes back they will have to clear up that money so he can play. The good thing is if he is not healthy around the trade deadline they can leave him on IR and trade for someone.

I read somewhere that hockey players don't need ACLs. That depending on some of their skating mechanics it will not hurt them.

I bet there was not a dry panty in the Sarah Palin VIP box. And IMO there is rarely a good time to run a goalie. I am sure you agree that the Flyer's second goal was blatant goalie interference. Why the hell do they have 2 refs for anyway? It got Philly back in the game. It also amazes me how when a goalie is pulled the replacement stands on his head and holds the tide more often than not. So much for game day prep.

I just can't stand when relatively new teams go through a redesign of the uniforms just to make money. Their red and white unis where fine. It is just a money grab. A special jersey for big games might be OK but not a total overhaul.

The NHL team unveiled a new third jersey on Wednesday that features the team's secondary storm warning logo attached to a hockey stick and laid over a triangle, a tribute to the team's home in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.
Each piece of the new uniform is primarily black, including the helmets, gloves, socks and jersey.

It has nights, surely. The upper level is pretty full in certain sections, but can be low. Usually I think we get around 15K. Maybe more, maybe less some nights. Some days it's a packed house. We have lots of good games coming up.

His Dallas teammates have stated he's not welcome in the dressing room. It seems to me that Avery must not have been a very popular guy with his teammates to begin with.

I have just watched the NY Rangers score 4 goals in the last 3 games. 3 of them were scored last night in an OT win over the Thrashers Woopie!! I should point out that the first goal was scored by enforcer Colton Orr for his first in 83 games. I should also point out that the goalie lost his stick before the goal was scored. The Rangers are playing emotionless offensive hockey and barely getting by right now. Their record was very good when Avery played. If Dallas does not want him i would love for the Rangers to get him back and have Dallas eat a lot of the contract. I do not care what the guy does off the ice as long as it is legal. And as long as he is not hurting any players on the ice I feel the same way. I am very sure at least 75% of NY Ranger fans feel the same way. He sure opened up a lot of ice for his team mates by having two players on other teams chasing him around on his shifts. As for great players, from what I know Bredan Shanahan and Avery are very good friends. Funny how both are gone.

The Flyer offense is red hot now. I hope they blow their load early. Rangers have been playing so so for a while and keep getting points. I guess it could go either way. The Ranger power play is abysmal and they still have no sniper. With only 1 million in cap room they might just have to go with what they got and dig a bit deeper. The local sabres tv crew was debating the "old" players coming back and playing after they leave for other leagues or retire and all agreed it's good for the game and maybe better they only play in 1/2 the regular season games so they are healthy for the playoffs. I'm not sure they are worth 10 mil prorated but these old guys who are elite players will draw fans and help a team win.

I suppose if your a season ticket holder you want them all year long.

It's actually kind of amazing how well some of those old dogs play well into their late 30's and even low 40's.

The NHL season is a grind for sure. No player can go full bore all season and expect to have gas left in the tank for 4 rounds of the playoffs. The first guy I know of being a hired gun in the NHL was former Ranger defensman Reijo Ruotsalainen. This little Fin was unbelievable. But he was small and the NHL wore on him. He became a hired gun for the Oilers in 87 and 90. He played a total of 26 regular season games and a total of 43 playoff games in those 2 seasons. His reward? 2, count them, 2 Stanley Cups. That little shit could play today. Think of him as a Euro Phil Housley if you will.

He just misses the game and always has since he retired. He plans to be a fourth line checker. He is in great shape and would love a chance at a 5th Cup. Any team can take him but he is giving the Sharks the first shot. Right now he is riding the bus in the north east playing minor league hockey waiting for a call.
