My 3 month old daughter, Jane, can not sleep without being swaddled since she came home from the hospital. Now she has started kicking out of it at night and sucking on her hands. Instead of soothing her, it only wakes her up. Any one out there had any experience in how and when to get her to sleep without the wrapping? We've tried keeping one hand out, but it has not been as successful as a tight wrap.
They make a swaddling blanket with pockets for hands and feet that my brother used on my niece 'till she was 6months. It looks like an infant straight jacket, but keeps them completely swaddled. You could do that until you are comfortable letting her figure it out on her own.
I can ask him for the link if you'd like...

Yes, I've seen those. Good idea, I'll have to look into buying yet another gadget!

We kept ours swaddled until 5 months, when we ferberized him. Yeah, as they get bigger, they kick more -- which is when the swaddling is even more helpful. What we did was got to a fabric store and buy cloth that was bigger than your standard tiny baby blanket. This gives you a bigger square to work with, which lets you make sure the flap goes completely around.
Are you also doing it tight? As they get older, they like it snug.
