Any reccomendations for software? i am going to cancel my Dishnetwork and use the computer as our tv. We are hooked up via vga to a 1080i 32 lcd
computer will run anything as it is brand new and has plenty of power, we bought to watch movies and such on the go it is entertainment minded anyway. If any one has software that they are using and like please let me know

not sure about software but i know netflix is offering 12,000 movies for downloading

Nevermind software appears to be a scam.
After much research i have discovered that the dish to pc software just strings together a list of free streaming sites. Most of the viewing is is in languages other than english.

I don't know if it works with/for sat. tv, but if you want to turn your comp into an entertainment unit, take a look at this (http://www.mythbuntu.org/). It would require you to reformat your comp to linux, but it's free and pretty amazing.

My wife watched a rerun on abc last night from the abc website, if you don't mind being a week behind the regular scheduled progams,

You'll need a good high speed connection.

I hooked my old office PC to my 40" HD LCD and put a wirelss card in it. We can watch most shows from NBC, CBS, ABC, SCiFi... the next day if my POS DVR does not record. (Which happens too often)

try this, it works well, not to many mainstream channels but a fun diversion, oh and a heads up many ADULT only channels

we've beenusing hulu for awhile i love Dr. Horrible sing along blog
I like fancast as well.

We,ve been using the the comp. as our main entertainment for some time now i have to say i am not sure why i did not do it earlier.
We get to watch damn near anything we want except Star trek cant finding any streams other than fan stuff yuk.

anyways thanks for the advice fellas
