Spybot S&D has an immunize option that blocks spyware processes. Best of all, Spybot's free. I've been using it and it's really helped cut down on the crap.

I had a smart ass remark, but I will keep it to myself.

Processes? You mean when windows loads you get alot of things that load up automatically? What operating system are you using? Not that I will know how to help you, haha!

To remove "processes" running in the background... (e.g., if you have a shitload of icons down beside of your clock).

Click on START
Click on RUN
Type in "MSCONFIG"
On the screen that pop's up -- Click on the STARTUP tab (far right - top).

Go through there and uncheck any of the stuff you want not to start when you start your computer. Really, all you need to start is your virus and/or firewall. You can also uncheck everything and anything that HAS to run will automatically recheck itself.

When you have taken the checkmarks out of whatever you don't want running,

Click on APPLY
Click on OKAY

You will be asked to reboot. Reboot your computer.

The first time it boots up you will get a message that you are running custom settings or something. Click the box that says, "Do not tell me this again" and click Okay.

You should notice that you have removed a lot of those icons.

You can always go back and add them in (put the checkmark back -- they aren't removed from the area) if you want. Like you could remove them all, then go back after the reboot and add back anything you want or think you need.

NOTE: This does not UNINSTALL or REMOVE programs. This simply tells the computer to not run them in the background and/or startup when your computer starts. You should also notice that you get a speed increase computer-wide.

Is there a win2k equivalent to that?

It's the exact same on Windows 2000.

Oh, I'm sorry....

On Winders 2000 you have to actually go online and download "MSCONFIG.EXE" Here's a link http://www.techadvice.com/win2000/m/msconfig_w2k.htm

After you download the file, it will work the same as described above.

As opposed to "going offline" and downloading the file. Or, mayhaps you don't have an internet connection. Heh. That just sounded, well, dumb. :???:

But, you're welcome!
