It's official...I'm gonna be visiting the East Coast from May 26th - June 6th, and I'd really like to meet some of you guys that live out that way. We'll be around Philly from the 26th til June 1st, then down to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware til the 5th. My dad lives pretty close to the Dogfish Head Brewery in Delaware, so I'll be going there for sure, probably mid-week. In Philly, I'll probably be able to get away either Wednesday or Friday, but I wouldn't know where to go, I'll actually be in West Chester, but I'd be willing to travel a bit in order to find a good meet up spot-I know a lot of you are in Jersey, so that wouldn't be out of the question.

So, who's in?

West Chester is a great town...there's some good restaurants and bars there. We came very close to buying a house downtown.
Anyway, I'm about 15 minutes north east of there (Right up 202 North). Depending on the wife I could meet you in West Chester for a couple of beers. I'll check but can't imagine she'll have an issue unless she has something already planned.

too far from me but be sure to check the dogfishead dates to see what days of the week they serve from the randall.

Now we're talking! As the time grows near, we can firm up time and location. I look forward to meeting you, and anyone else who thinks they can make it. It's no Dadstock, but I think it'll be fun to meet some of the guys face to face.

I'll be checking back here every two minutes until May 25th, 'cause I can't wait, and I'm just that desperate for attention.:icon_redface:

I live not to far from there. I am right over the bridge in Jersey. I use to work up on 202 in Chadds Ford. Let me know what you guys are thinking about and I will see what I can do.

If you want good beer I can show you around Philly. Monk's is a great place to hang out. Tons of good bars in that area.

Good call Poppa, sorry you can't make it, but we'll hoist a glass for the dads who can't get there. I could call ahead to find out, or I could just stop in each day until they start pouring the Randall. By the way, what's the Randall? I only know of the beersw he mentioned in his book, "Brewing Up a Business", Randall sounds familiar though...

Update: Oh yeah, the Randall...I just looked it up, I had forgotten about that contraption, I'll definitely call ahead to see when they're pouring from that Hop filled beauty.

And speaking of his book, it was a pretty good read. I've also got his book on Extreme Brewing, which I really need to put to use, I've been slacking on getting my brew on.

Yeah Maddox! I could really get into a night out in Philly. Maybe even grab a hotel room and really enjoy what that town has to offer. I know Huck's grandparents and the rest of my wife's family wouldn't even know I was gone. It's Huck's first Birthday on May 28th, and he hasn't even met this particular set of GP's.
:offtopic:
Side Note: Thanks to the high rate of divorce in the 80's, he's now got 8 grandparents, scattered from Maine to Florida, which has us considering a move from Idaho, back to the East Coast. This trip could help our decision making process.

Maddox...He said "Fun"...not sure if your the guy for this. Although your nights out with the boys seem to be pretty epic. LOL.

Don't forget NC. Great place for families and not totally full of Yankees, although the smart ones seem to have figured out how great it is here and are inundating the area. And your just far enough from family to have your own life. Good luck meeting these guys. JeffB already dissed me on the meeting here in Raleigh a week or so ago, as did Kids Galore. LOL. Come down here man.

So I'm shooting for Monday June 1st to visit DogfishHead Brewing, they will have Randall the Enamel Animal online for the evening, unless their schedule changes between now and then. Start making your plans to visit the great state of Delaware, it'll be fun and exciting and we can get all hopped up on hopped up beer. Be there.

I'd be up for meeting with you guys if I can arrange it. Dogfish sounds cool.

Sounds good Mogwai. I'll let you know as details firm up. Where do you live? Are you very far from Delaware? Dogfish should be a lot of fun, they have a distillery there now too, but that sounds kinda dangerous to me...

mogwai dad

I'm in Jersey just over the walt whitman bridge. Not sure how far from dogfish.

taoistfrog
03-31-2009, 04:12 PM
I think its actually a few hours from where you're at, unless you paddle across the bay, which is how the Dogfish founder exported his first keg from Delaware back in the 1990's. He's a crazy bastard, and a marketing genius. That's a long drive, but maybe somebody in Philly would have D-fish Head on tap, maybe even with Randall, I'll look into it. My night in Philly will have to be Wed., May 27th or Fri., May 29th.

I'm getting excited about this. I don't have much of a life.

mogwai dad
03-31-2009, 04:24 PM
yeah, I saw a beer special with him in it. don't remember what channel though. Food Network maybe. or maybe discovery, don't remember, but that guy stuck out.

Mapquest just told me it is over a two hour drive......yikes. don't think I could pull that off. Perhaps the philly night i can do depending on the wife's schedule. Been a long time since I actually went out in the city. I think that was for drinks at the continental and maybe dinner at tangerine...crap I don't remember.

OK fellas, here's the deal...
I've been in touch with the management of Grey Lodge Pub, in Northeast Philly, they are willing to tap a keg or two of Dogfish Head, and maybe even run Randall, on either the 27th or the 29th of May, I'd prefer to do it on the 29th, since it's a Friday, and I expect more dads could make it, but I'm open to suggestion...

Will's Dad: Any word on Sam?

More to come on the possible meetup at the Dogfish Head Brewery, I'll definitely be there at least one night between Monday June 1st and Thursday, the 4th. Anyone else interested in going there?

Talked to my buddy this weekend. He'll let me know soon. My wife seems pretty open to taking some days off so there's a good chance I could be in. :pint:

Just thought I'd bump my own thread since the date is only 3 weeks away. I'm still thinking about Grey Lodge Pub on Friday the 29th, but I'm open to suggestions based on anyone's availability. It kinda has to be that Friday, but the location is negotiable, I'm just hoping to get to meet up with some of y'all, live and in person. Also, I'm gonna try to get myself a nice steak dinner that night ("My [wife's] a vegetarian, which pretty much means I'm a vegetarian too."), any suggestions from you local boys?

Hope some of ya can make it out...

Yeah, I'm gonna be there at the Grey Lodge Pub on the 29th, two weeks from this friday. Can you make it Jeffus? I'd sure like to meet some of you guys. I chose the Grey Lodge since they will be have some Dogfish Head on tap, and I've been in touch with the manager and he said he might be willing to fire up the Randall. If I can at least get some 'maybes' or probablys' from anyone, I can get back in touch with the guy and make a stronger case for breaking out Randall.

Will'sDad? Mogwai? Maddox? Think you might make it?

It's just around the corner, only two weeks, start making those plans. It's no Dadstock, but there will be beer and dads...

I hope to make it. My little guy is seriously under the weather right now, but hopefully he will be back to normal by then and I can get away for a night. What time are you aiming to be there? My wife typically works later on Fridays.

taoistfrog
05-13-2009, 10:42 PM
Glad to hear that you guys might make it. As far as time goes...maybe 6 or 7? But I'm open to suggestion. I'll prolly get there early and scout the talent, I mean check the freshness of the kegs...I've got all night, but I should warn ya, I get delightfully obnoxious and outgoing when drinking, so the later you get there, the more likely it is that I'll have made new friends, or gotten in a fight,(unfortunately the friends will prolly be dudes, and the fight will be with a gang of chicks...it's how I rock it) you've been warned.

Mogwai- I hope the little one starts feeling better, it sounds like some rough goings on. Poor guy... Hang in there!

The wife usually gets home around 7-7:30 on Friday nights so I'll see what I can do. Anyone familiar with this bar/neighborhood? I used to drive through there years ago to take the tacony palmyra bridge, but never stopped anywhere.

Glad to hear it! I'll be staying at my FIL's in West Chester. Thought about a hotel in philly, but I don't know if the wife would go for it. Do you know anything about the trains there? Would that be practical? How late do they run?

FYI here's the link to the Grey Lodge Pub (http://www.greylodge.com/about.html) It's got directions from all over, as well as menus and beer list. Also, WillsDad, I may have a DD from west chester, my BIL, he's 19, but hangs out in Philly all the time, if it works out maybe we can pick you up too.

There's no train station in West Chester...the closest one is probably in Exton. Here's the schedule
http://www.septa.org/service/sched/r5s_wk.html
We live about a mile from the Strafford station so maybe we could work something out depending on the time and the wife's work schedule that day. I'm still not 100% yet.

Edit: And I'd probably take a cab from 30th Street Station if I took the train in.

We start travelling tomorrow, so I'll be AFK for a couple of days. I'll check back in once we're settled at the FIL's. I plan to be at the Grey Lodge Pub by 8:00 on Friday. All are welcome, you can just show up or let me know on this thread so I know who to look for, and I'll PM you with my cell # to help coordinate. As I said earlier, I'll probably head into the city a little early to get a bite to eat, y'all would be welcome to join me for that too.

I'm really looking forward to a night out in a new city, and the chance to meet some of you guys will make it that much better. Hope some of you can make it.
