Motivation
 
Just plopped down $60+ for a half marathon in September. It's been quite awhile since I ran a race, and my body shape shows it!!

It gives me about 7 weeks to get back into running consistantly before starting a 12 week training program. I've got this!

I ran this race 2 years ago...it's cool, it goes along the beach in RI. For any phish heads, I get to run through Weekapaug.:stickman:. Which is one of two reasons why I ran it last year...that and it has a cool medal (a surfboard).

Anyway...time to lace up the shoes again!

My wife just talked me into signing up for another 5k in a couple weeks. Thankfully the 3 miles is easier than 13. :icon_lol:

awesome. I had to defer my 1st attempt at a marathon earlier this year but am signed up for a half in June. Starts and works it way through Colonial Williamsburg and some other cool places.
What training plan are you using?

I usually use Hal Higdon's HM program...I've had good success with it.

Good luck with your race!! I'm stoked to be getting back into it.

Good luck Don! I would love to get back to doing regular 3 -5 mile runs.

I like Hal Higdon too. the only thing I tweak is the 3 running days in a row.

I wish that I could get to the gym more but with the 2 little ones it is so hard to be consistent.Some one gets sick, has an appt, etc. I have found over the last 4 years running is the one workout activity that I can always get in.

The only way I can make sure it gets in is to do a 4:45AM run. Get up at 4, have some coffee to purge the innards and then head out. This way I'm back and done before anyone even wakes up (usually). Anytime other than that is risky, due to family commitments or reduced energy level. lol.

Thanks Mark, yeah...even if you don't train for any race, doing several miles a few times of week is cathartic too.

I'd have to be in bed before 10 in order to get up at 4. Good on ya for doin' it, but man that's wayyyyyy too early for me!

I surprised myself with a 4.5mile jog Monday.

The training for the HM has been going well. Officially started the training program last week and I'm still getting used to running on back to back days or for 2-3 days in a row for 4-5x a week...but it's going well.

There is a sprint triathlon in the next town over on July 14th, about 3 miles from my house. I did it 2 years ago, it was the only tri I've done and it was a lot of fun...but it comes with a $70 entrance fee. So I've decided to host my own for a few friends a couple weeks later. A few of us do them casually, so it'll be for fun...just time yourself if you want to know time.

We're going to swim laps in my pool (15 full laps = .25 mile) and then run and bike through my neighborhood. Gonna order medals for everyone, and since we're all different ages everyone will get a 1st place AG (Age Group) medal. lol. Pool party/BBQ for all the families to follow.

I also signed up for a "real" sprint tri in the middle of august. So my backyard one will be a good primer for it.

Glad the training is going well. I am into week 3 of my 10 week plan. I basically combined the Road Runners and Hal Higdon plans. Still getting acclimated to the heat and humidity of late morning runs.
