Default Too many apples, beer in the making?

I have too many apples after making apple butter this year due to an error in math. Let's say I have a spare bushel. Yes, it was a big mistake in math.

Anyway, has anyone ever made a cider or apple beer?

Care to share a recipe for the novice brewer?

I've heard of apple beet but dont think I've ever tried any.

scan the web and see what you can find about making hard cider. peel and press those apples. I have no idea how much you'd get out of them. Sounds like fun though.

To be honest, I'm way confused on hard cider.

I think if you want to age it and let it clear, it takes a long time. But it only takes a week or two to fully ferment out, and I can tell you that it's quite drinkable at that point. The shop owner was racking to secondary after only a week or so and I was there to sample some, it was delicious.

I made that and to this day it's the only thing I've ever dumped. Dont know what happened but it sure as shit wasn't what everyone on that forum is raving about. I used store-bought cider like that guy did and used liquid yeast WL720. It fermented out dry and nasty, tried backsweetening it but never liked the taste.

I'll try again someday...

i had to dump only one batch so far due to the rubber stopper for the airlock falling into the bucket during primary. i bottled it and tried it. had a rubber/plastic taste imo and ended up dumping it all out.

I definitely wanted to try a hard cider but the whole year just kinda turned me off completely. I dont have the place to store it for that long. if it is possible to get it drinkable after a few weeks then thats not that bad. I might have to try it next time i am in the mood, though i doubt the supply shop will have their cider anymore.
