Yes, cast iron over cheap metal. I would look for what is called ENAMALED CAST IRON. The camping kind are just bare cast iron. These indoor ones are typically enameled. There are Stainless Steel ones but for a dutch oven I would go with enameled cast iron. Basically anything large with a tight fitting lid that can go from the range to the oven is what a dutch oven is.

This is what you are looking for - Id get as big as you can afford.

I went camping with my son's cub scout pack this last weekend. They made about 5 different types of cobler in dutch ovens. Talk about good. I have wanted a dutch oven for a while and this last weekend sealed the deal. I am going to look around for one. These were the cast iron type.

I got a cheap(er) one from Target and it works pretty well. Enamel, indoor type.
