Yeah...
The shampoos only kill the larvae and adults. Use it, comb through and get out as much as you can, dry the crap out of the kid's hair like hot hot hot till they whine about it. Launder everything through the dryer. The things you can't launder go in a plastic bag and put on time out for two weeks. Wash with Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle shampoo and conditioner till nine days after the initial treatment and repeat. Use the shampoo, comb through and cook the hair. The crawlers don't survive long away from body heat, the nits up to two weeks. http://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/ some light reading.

Thanks for the heads up on the tea tree oil. I'll have to remember that. Knock on wood no issues with lice so far - just a false alarm. I'm thinking the kids will be getting buzz cuts in the summer though.

Girls are more susceptible, btw, I'd think because of the longer hair and sharing head to head contact. You ever watch grade school girls share secrets?

I've never done anything when I've seen those notices. I just wait. Look for the itching. Never had it hit my kids yet! The boys can just cut their hair. LOL. The girl, not so much.

We've had it. I wash, launder, and don't worry about it. People get so uptight about it around here. They are just bugs, you deal with it.
