LOL, Tuttle. I found the perfect song to suit that meme but (ironically) it's only appropriate for the Pub.

Noddy Holder had a most excellent voice for rock. Here in the states these guys just didn't get the attention they deserved.

I've been following a local musician on the Periscope app. He plays fingerstyle arrangements of pop songs from the 70s up to present day on nylon string guitar.

He does some pretty funky things on guitar.

BTW, I met up with him during the intermission at the Tommy Emmanuel show. I think my wife was jealous of his nails - which are obviously fake and probably take a lot more wear and tear because he puts them to use.

Looks like he's on his way to copying Willie Nelson's guitar Kwak!

Ah yes ... "Trigger." That guitar is an icon. It's a Martin N-20 gut string classical made in Nazareth, PA and Willie bought it in Nashville in 1969 after a drunk destroyed his previous guitar. When Willie's house went up in flames he ran in and saved it and a bag of weed. Over the years he's worn through the spruce top because he plays with a pick and he's got many signatures of fellow country musicians etched into it. It's priceless because the guitar rarely leaves Willie's side and when it goes I suspect that Willie would soon follow.

It's not the only guitar to look that way though. Glen Hansard of course has his Takamine, which is a steel strung - unlike the one played by Daryl Shawn which is a classical. Hansard's is a discontinued model NP-15 that he dubbed "The Horse" - possibly a nod to Trigger which Willie named after Roy Roger's horse. bought in 1990 in Dublin and has similarly played a hole through the top as well, exposing the bracing underneath. The top on Hansard's guitar is not spruce but is actually western red cedar which is much softer than spruce.

Getting back to my first post though, Daryl Shawn's guitar is kind of a combination of Trigger and Horse. It's a Takamine with a cedar top like Hansard's but it's a classical like Willie's Martin. Daryl's guitar used to be an acoustic/electric but he removed the pickup and the electronics package that was installed, leaving a hole on the upper bout. Purists would call it a "barn door" (good God, not ANOTHER horse reference!) but he stumbled on to something that I learned from the boutique luthier community: adding another soundhole in the side of the guitar makes it LOUDER. They even have a name for the feature: a soundport.
