Default Windows 10

Anyone upgrade? Is it worth doing to my old laptop? It keeps reminding me that it's available. What do you suppose I should backup before the upgrade if I do?

Thanks!

I know my wife regrets letting her laptop upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. She is not at all a fan of it. I've heard from others that if you already have Windows 8 then it's a really solid upgrade, but if you have 7 there are so many interface changes, and changes to how things work that it's like re-learning your computer all over again.

I upgraded from 7 to 10 and am pretty happy with it, I'm not a power user though

I did too, no problems. From 8 to 10 biggest improvement for me was getting rid of the start menu (wrong word I'm sure) that came up from hovering on the right upper corner. It was right where other functions like closing a screen are.

Cortana works pretty well too. I like it.

I've upgraded my old laptop (with the new SSD) and my newer desktop. I've stopped using the "Edge" browser and reverted back to Firefox and Explorer. The edge browser did not like to function with too many web pages.

Overall, it seems to be working well. The new OS supports 4K drives (above 2.2TB), so my backup functions better. It also triggered a handful of driver updates including a BIOS update (hopefully to read 4K drive architecture). You do need to make sure to check for new drivers from your computer manufacturer or component manufacturer after the upgrade. My fast little ssd laptop started to really slow down (not just with internet page loading) due to a wireless network adapter driver that had to be manually updated. The generic windows 10 driver was crap. HP had a several driver updates for Windows 10 that did not come from Microsoft. After the driver updates, it runs just as fast as before. Windows 10 also recognized the SSD and had specific cleaning/optimization functions for it (no defrag, clear unused sectors).

I've been running it a little over a month now and feel fairly comfortable with it.

Edit: One more thing, desktop gadgets are completely gone. If you still want them, you have to use a third party work-around. I miss my detailed weather gadget but have not gotten around to downloading them again.

I married an IT queen. I'm not ALLOWED to upgrade without permission. I might screw something up.

I miss my Mac.

Kwak, my wife is IT, too. I get all the hardware stuff, though. OS qualifies as that. Come to think of it, everything about the home computer is in my realm. There's no programming needed, just installation. :P

I'm still thinking about it.

Just upgraded the boys laptop, he loves it. Last one left is my daughter's laptop and all 3 will be updated.
