Question When hungry people get mean

Do you guys know anyone who goes beyond grumpy when their tummies start rumbling? How the heck are you supposed to cook a halfway decent meal and try and reestablish sanity? Is this an actual medical condition or do I just need to have a go to "shut up and eat this" item on hand?

could just be a general low blood sugar (may or may not be diabetes....I guess it depends on how often it occurs whether or not it's worth looking into).

If mealtime is near, maybe just a small glass of milk or an 'appetizer'/pre-cursor to the meal..I usually keep whole carrots on hand that I can cut up into sticks quickly. Or the new favorite around here is sugar snap peas.

my wife is like this Kwak, she can get to be a serious bitch. She had gestational diabetes when she was preggo and I think it's still there at times.

The Antichrist appears when my wife gets hungry. It's not far off. The trick is to make sure there are snacks before they get to that point. Our son is kind of like that so I make sure I have snacks in the van when I pick him up from school.

My 12 year old daughter can be a bear after school some days until she has had something to eat. She skips lunch at school some days for what ever reason. I pay the price.

When we travel in the car I pack snacks as much for the kids as for my wife. When she is hungry its bad but add a little car sickness and its freaking Mad Max on the road ways.

We'll be on the road sometimes and my wife will do that. "Can we stop at the next exit, Sonic, gas station? My blood sugar is low, and I need something to eat." She's not diabetic, although I'd say it runs in her family.

I keep trying to get her to go Keto with me, but she just says she can't right now. It's too hard. Whatever.

Keto? Is that like a sugar free thing? I recall the term from my Atkins/South.Beach diet days.

My wife is the same way. If there's any frustration she folds like a cheap card table. I'm not much better.

Meanwhile Justin just got off the bus and he's a snotty, blubbering mess. Lunch was at 12 for him so I boiled up some hot dogs and mac and cheese. Hopefully it's just hunger and not his meds running low. Increased appetite is a side effect and insurance requires that he get an annual lipid/fasting glucose test.

Yep. Nutritional Ketosis. Basically a low-carbohydrate, moderate protein, high fat diet/way of eating. I find it very tasty. Once you get past the first few days of transition, your blood sugar levels and your hunger basically is very subdued or non existent. My mood has much improved on the whole, as well.

My wife isn't really pleasant and it really ramps up when she's hungry. I usually offer her sausage, she gets mad and I ask if she would rather have fish.

I sleep on the couch a lot.
