Default Do your kids have MLK day off?

It looks like both my kids have school but my wife is off. I thought it was supposed to be an off day for schools?

Kids and wife off Monday, and the kids have Tuesday off as well. Teacher Institute Day.

I went to school in a town that had residents that "wouldn't take kindly" to having MLK day off. But, the school consistently scheduled Records Day on that day sneak in an observance.

Weirdly, I actually got shot at by a group of high school kids that were playing paint ball on MLK day a few years back. They were all dressed in full GI Joe gear and the side of the half million dollar lake front home was covered with paint ball splotch.

I was training in a racing kayak on the lake when a shot went between me and my paddle blade. I paddled up to their beach, the dozen or so high school kids ran inside and came out with Mom Homeowner.

I yelled up to the mom on the deck, "Your kid just shot at me". She sassed back,"Which one? " as if I couldn't proof anything to anyone so I should shove off.

I replied "yOU should be telling ME which one" and when I got up onto the deck with mom and the dirty dozen, I simply said, " if you're not going to discipline them then I will" and I grabbed a gun out of the biggest kids hands and threw it into to the lake.

I guess that unfortunately will always be in the forefront of my mind and as a distraction on the MLK Remembrance Day.

"So, Johnny, how did you remember Dr King on your day home from school?"

"We played with toy guns and shot at a guy"

Haha, future boaters going by there didn't know they had you to thank for kids not shooting at them. Bet that was a good look on his face as it sank.

Yeah, we're all off Monday too.

Well, looking at my kids' school calendar I see that there are some holidays labeled as "snow make up day." Given that we've had so many days off so early I figured that they'd buckle up the Big Boy Pants.

But no....we've got another Polar Vortex setting in. This isn't the pub so I can't share the quip that's on the tip of my fingers.

Speaking of which, I imagine that the "how's the weather" thread is going to be alive and buzzing with delays and cancellations next Tuesday through Thursday.
