FWIW I was contemplating on rooting for the Phillies, but the Pirates have been at least staying contention. I expect that there will be drama come the end of July. It looks like the Mets are just throwing in the towel early.

At least you can look forward to Tim Tebow coming up with the Syracuse Mets.
I'm sure he'll save the team.
Bah hah.

Fair enough. Maybe neither of us should complain if our teams underachieve then.

The infamous Bill Buckner passed away yesterday and may he rest in peace, quite literally. I love sports, especially baseball, as much as anyone. But I'm never lacking for amazement at how cruel so called supporters of a team can be toward players, or even each other (see Steve Bartman). Buckner had a tremendous 22 year career collecting over 2700 hits and winning a batting title. I wouldn't go this far, but some say he's a borderline hall of famer. However, there probably are some less deserving players already enshrined. It always bugs me when, and I've hear it several times in the last day, that Boston fans "forgave" Bill Buckner for his 1986 World Series error after winning it in 2004. If anyone needs to be forgiven, it would be the fans by Buckner for the death threats, vitriol, and two decades of misery they put him through for making an error in a TIED game that extended the 1986 World Series. Ultimately, Buckner did forgive and returned to Fenway after the Sox won it again in 2007 and all the neanderthals who exiled him to an Idaho ranch gave him a 4 minute standing ovation. How big of them!

Rest in Peace Bill Buckner, 1949-2019

We can complain all we want about our favorite teams.

As for Bill Buckner R.I.P. and thanks for the memory! I was in Montreal for a NY Rangers fan club bus trip that infamous night. Me and my friends were in the bar at the old Forum after the Rangers lost to the Habs. All the Montreal fans there were rooting for Boston because they did not want Gary Carter to win a WS after leaving the Expos. Needless to say we went nuts after the Buckner play. The Canadian fans were pissed. My Brother who at 6"1" and weighing maybe 165lbs. goes up on the stage in front of the TV screen and gives the entire room of Carter haters the Bronx salute. I am sure the 18 Molsen Export Ales he had helped with that decision. They did nothing, I was sure a brawl was about to start. Good times.

The "big Papi story is getting weird. The suspect in custody, aka The Surgeon, is also a suspect for a murder in Reading Pa.
