Mom and I went to the local Social Security office so that I could submit documents to get them to update his records so that they increase his benefits to cover his room and board. Afterward she and I had lunch. Later on I will be visiting Justin yet again while Joey is at church kid's club.

Looks like a lot of housework in and out today for this guy. I am pinned to the house. Having the snow blower tuned up at home. They gave me no window of arrival. I am also having the furnace tuned up with a 12 - 4 PM window of arrival.

I went to Lowe's, Michael's and Wal Mart yesterday. I bought autumn decorations on clearance at Michael's and selection was very sparse even though the real leaves have barely begun to turn. Since Saturday's gathering will be with our circle of wine connoisseurs I went with a grapevine theme instead of the bright colors. I bought $100 worth of stuff there at 70% off. Do the math.

Then I went to Wal Mart and bought my wife a little Eiffel Tower. There's no subtext there; she wants to go back to France. Candles are also really cheap there.

I can't wait to start decorating for Christmas, though. When I was a kid I had a train set with all the buildings. It was HO scale so I used all my Matchbox cars too. My FIL gave us his old Lionel set though. I've been afraid to put it out because it's probably collectible and the kids aren't into that kind of thing.

Meanwhile, Lowe's got none of my money. My wife is worried about money so she doesn't want to hire somebody to finish the bathrooms. That means it's on me.

I'm no wine snob - my wife is and it makes her happy so it has its good points.

The mornings after are what sucks. That's why I prefer beer. Less sugar.

Very nice. You should definitely put some up for sale on Etsy. I love nautical knick-knacks like that. I loved visiting the nautical museum in Norfolk. It kind of makes me sad that my mom doesn't live near there anymore.

I swear I need glasses and to "practice mindfulness" because I shouldn't be using "I'm getting old" as an excuse. I've never had the ability to focus in any capacity.

With regards to the bathroom renovation, the floor is just not level. Looking online, I've found many different methods and opinions on how to do that and it has caused me to doubt my own plan moving forward - causing me to take steps backward.

Long story short: I realized I made a mistake that I have to undo. I used the wrong type of wood panel for the subfloor. Instead of using exterior grade wood that is relatively stable I used project-grade wood that warped. So I tore it out and bought the right thing, which turned out to be less expensive than what I used in the first place. Today I need to cut that panel to size and screw it down. We'll see how level it will be so that I can move forward.
