Default Started the couch25k program.

Week 1
day 1
weight : 284 (ouch)

My thoughts:

OH MY GOD I HURT. I haven't really been all that active since I quit the gym back in september (money, plus a major bruised hip bone from racquetball,) I also quit playing softball at that time to.

So other than walking Anelise the mile each way to and from school, I wasn't getting much exercise.

I downloaded a podcast that had a guy who told you when to jog and when to walk which really helped. And I think overall I did good for my first night, I jogged all of the intervals minus about 5 seconds of one of the middle ones. At one point my hamstrings really started hurting and felt like my feet were gonna fall off, so I now know an area I need to stretch out better next time.

In my mind this all is pretty sad considering 12 years ago in the army I was running an 11:40 minute two mile. But that is also why I need this program... if I was doing it by myself I would want to go out there and just start pushing myself along too fast and either get frustrated because I am not where I used to be or just simply hurt myself.

Good for you, man. I'm not doing the exact program, but I've been using as motivation the idea that I'm going to do a 5k this summer. I don't know if I really will, but it's something to work toward. After a month of treadmill work and weight training, I feel good.

Good luck!

I really liked the couch to 5k that I did. Ran the 5k in October. I still try and run a few miles a week.

Keep at it! Better for your body and your mind! Is it me or does 5k just sound better than 3.2 miles?

I ran 2.5 miles yesterday and then did some sprints with my 14 year old daughter at track practice. I can still beat her in the 100 yard dash, for another year maybe.

I need to restart that... After my nasal operation I stopped...

One word of advice... Don't feel bad about repeating a week or two. With your weight (similar to mine) week 4 will probably hurt a lot...

Hell, Darth, I started when I was under 200 and had to repeat a couple weeks. My wife and I came up with week 3.5 or whatever week it was to bridge the brutality of it all.

Okay,

W1d2 and I think I may need to put this on hold for now. At least until I can drop some poundage first.

My knee that I have already had repaired once popped on me tonight and now isn't feeling too hot. I think I am honestly just carrying too much bulk right now.

So I think for now just an extra regimen of brisk walking for 30 minutes 3-4 times a week until I shed 15-20 pounds and then start it up again.

That's unfortunate. Have you thought of biking at all? That may not bother your knee as much but still give you a cardiovascular workout.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Sorry to hear about your knee. Wrap it up and get walking!

Bummer for sure! Do you have good shoes? Get fitted for the right shoes if you haven't already before you start again, or heck, before you walk a lot too. It made a world of difference for me.
