She's certainly taking shape. Unlike those Penguins of yours. I be Don Cherry would even say it's hard working and not a quitter.

I finally got it smooth enough to build a full gloss on the back:

The picture doesn't do it justice but the finish on the back is about as clear as the only factory gloss finished guitar I own. As for the color of the wood, I love the way light plays around the fibers. It shimmers if you move it under the light, giving it almost a translucent property. The center strip is flamed mahogany and the texture looks like physical ripples but it's a flat surface. It's almost like a hologram.

Now on to the sides.

Looks great, Kwak.

Are you using steel wool or sand paper between finishes?

Just sandpaper, and then only a little bit but the pumice is technically the most abrasive agent in the mix. Its function is to break off tiny fibers from the wood and stuff them in the pores. I've been doing that mostly wrong though and the pumice itself is gumming things up. You're supposed to get a little in the pores but I use too much and shows up as white spots under the finish. That's why I switched to 600 grit sandpaper to kick up some shellac into powder form to get into the pores. After that the alcohol kind of melts everything down and makes things all smooth and glossy. It's been a learning process but I also have a couple of links to refer to as well. There are also a bunch of videos on youtube that have been very informative.

The French polish is progressing nicely. It's far from perfect but it's building a nice shine:
