Cool What type of area of the country do you live in ?

As part of the demographic research and a question North Country Dad and myself had, was curious to learn. Do you live in a rural, urban or suburban area of the country ?

Small town, about 1,100 people. One gas station, one elementary school, post office, library, convenience store, pharmacy, 2 traffic lights, 4 churches and 3 bars. Hell, when I list it out like that it's a frickin metropolis!

We're actually considered a village. My next door neighbor is just over the village line so he's just a resident of the county.

Our small town is actually a little bigger. Population is about 1,250. We have 4 gas station/convenience stores (was 5 but one closed down), 1 elementary, 1 middle, and 1 high school, post office, library, pharmacy, 2 traffic lights, 5 or 6 churches, no bars, 5 places to eat (not sure I'd call them all restaurants). We have 1 grocery store, 1 video rental place, 2 dollar stores, a hardware store, and one of those North Carolina specials, the ABC store.

We live outside of town, though.

Zag (why am I still awake?!)

Rural.

Though our town has a pop. of 3500, the county itself has the lowest pop. in NY State at 26000. There are only seven traffic lights in the entire county; three are in our town.

The town is growing. There is a Wal-Mart now and rumors of a Taco Bell. Yippee. We live outside of town on 5 acres, surrounded by farm land, though two new houses just went up on our road.

1 movie theater
1 hospital
1 school (k-12)
3 traffic lights
2 grocery stores
8 beauty salons
1 McDonalds
1 Arbys
1 Wal-Mart

....wait a second...what the hell is going on here?

this is not my beautiful house

I am so jealous of you small(er) town folk. Here in the suburbs of Washington DC the traffic doesn't stop and the dense population just keeps going further out.
One day we will move back to New England.

I'm not sure how you would categorize where we live... I guess the closest would be rural.

We are less than 5 minutes from interstate 40. 5 minutes from a town with population of 8000. Quite a few colleges/universities within 30 minutes.

The "neighborhood" we live in has 1 acre lots and 10 years ago was a farm. Happening all over this area - farmland being turned into neighborhoods.

Still seems rural though - at night you can actually see a skyfull of stars.

Oh, New England has no panaceas for growth and sprawl. Although there's always Maine if you really want to get back to the last century! :D

Our town is about 15,000. Population has almost doubled in the last 15 years or so. New folks (like us) are mostly commuters to Boston or the tech belt around Rt. 128. Usual frictions between "townies" and "newcomers", mostly focused on taxes and the school system. Both groups keen to keep remaining rural character, though, so no strip malls or fast food and the cops still get called out at least once a week to drive the sheep off Pond St.

Well

I guess I am suburban, however I border on Rural. I live in a typical subdivision of similar houses that is surrounded by farm fields. How long those will be there remains to be seen.

So I guess I am Suburbanrural..
