Thanks, guys.

This is a completely selfish endeavor though. I'm going to add some more "bling" to the rosette in the form of a blue paua abalone ring. There's a laminate with a flexible backing on the market that I'd like to use. It'd cost about $40 all told but it would match the inlays' color.

Took the kids for a picture session at the mall today. Primarily needed 6 month pictures of the baby, but of course the 3 year old had to get in there too. Now I've gone to these before with the wife and it is an ordeal. All hairs in place. No abnormal folds in collars or clothes. Shoe laces the same length. Keeping mental notes of poses and what she thinks the photographer may have on the camera. "Can we take a couple more like this.......?", etc.

When we got done the lady photographer said, "I wish more dads would bring the kids in for pictures. Moms tend to get a little stressed out."

I think this is a case of not seeing how the sausage is made. The photographer said she got some great pictures and was sure mom would have a lot to choose from.

I have a friend who is a photographer and he would agree with you. He does class pictures and he says teachers are just as bad. They feel like they have to do crowd control. He has to tell them to just stand back and let him do his job.

I just received a summons today for jury duty. Oh fun. Even if you are claiming an exception (like caregiver) the summons says I still have to appear to present a reason to the court. Fortunately for me, the day is a Wednesday and the kids aren't in school on Wednesday. So, I might drag the kids up there with me. Heh, heh. I'm going to call Monday to find out if I need to bring any documents with me. It's a small county, and depending on the panel, the summons says that I could be called for 8-10 cases over the next six months.

We'll see. Maybe one of you guys can write me a note.

I got called once while the boys were little, all I had to do is tell the judge I was primary caregiver. He asked ages, I gave them, dismissed.Yeah, was in person but didn't take all that long. I actually wanted to do it, I think it's a fascinating thing. But didn't have a place for the boys to go.

Here's something interesting I learned from my son's debate team this year, after judging some. There's a thing called jury nullification, which gives a jury the right to disregard the judge's instructions, the law, or anything else and just decide for there own reasons. So if you have some moral objection to something, for example assisted suicide, can find not guilty even if law and all evidence shows someone did that.

And the judge and any attorneys in a case aren't allowed to bring up in the trial that possibility. Who knew?

I did call the court clerk's office this morning to ask if I needed to bring anything given my situation with the kids. She said, if I had to, that it was OK to bring the kids. For half a second I wanted to, but then the sanity of my wife intervened. She's going to take half a day off while I go to court. It still costing us to have to deal with this. Grr...

If I had the time, it might be kind of interesting.
